About cuisine, green vegetable before was very rare in Truong Sa Island District. However, soldiers and residents in the district now have grown a large amount of green vegetable. On islands in the district like Sinh Ton, Truong Sa Lon, Song Tu Tay, Da Tay, Da Lat…, most uncultivated land has been covered with green vegetable plants. At present, the amount of green vegetable is enough for essential demand of the soldiers and residents here.
Difficulties in growing vegetable
Tran Thi Ngoc Quy, a resident on Song Tu Tay Island said that like many households, her family salvages the garden in her house to grow vegetable.
Truong Sa Island now has more fresh water for the residents. People often water vegetable by used fresh water. Therefore, among the sea, all kinds of vegetable such as cabbage and spinach are still green and fresh.
Major Luong Van Tuyen on Sinh Ton Island, a part of green plants in Truong Sa like catus, malabar almond trees, poons… are natural and the rest like coconut trees, papaya trees and vegetable are taken from the mainland.
Green vegetable – The specialty in Truong Sa archipelago
Formerly, vegetable was very rare in Truong Sa as the soil here was very poor and most was from the mainland.
In recent years, with a great effort to create a suitable environment for vegetable, the soldiers and residents can produce vegetable for their meals. A large number of other green plants, especially papayas also have been growing up well. Additionally, the soldiers and residents here raise ducks, chickens, pigs, gooses and rabbits to enrich the meals.
